A former travel office which has been empty for a decade is still “available to let”, Metro bosses have said.
There were hopes the shop at Monument Metro Station, in Newcastle city centre, would be transformed into an underground micropub after plans were approved in 2019.
However, this fell through as the Covid pandemic hit and negotiations with another potential occupier in 2021 failed to get off the ground.
Tyne and Wear Metro operator Nexus said the office’s rent was £26,000 per year.
A spokesperson told the Local Democracy Reporting Service there was still hope that someone would take over the prominent site.
A brochure on Nexus’ website described it as being in a “high footfall location” at the core of the Metro network and with access to Grey Street and Eldon Square.
It also said it had a takeaway service hatch already installed and kitchen facilities.
After the curved Monument ticket office closed in 2015, all of the Metro’s remaining travel shops shut in 2020.
